Alexis Bledel, Star of the Hit Series Gilmore Girls, Adds a Scoopful of Flavor To Baskin-Robbins’ ‘Free Scoop Night’; Event Supports Children’s Literacy With Every Free Scoop Served.
Glendale, Calif. — Baskin-Robbins today announced that Alexis Bledel, star of the hit-series Gilmore Girls, will lend her support and sweet tooth for the third annual “Free Scoop Night” event on Wednesday, May 1 from 6 to 10 p.m. More than 200 scoops per second will be given out in support of children’s literacy, as an anticipated 3 million consumers stop by participating Baskin-Robbins ice cream stores nationwide to enjoy a free scoop of their favorite flavor of ice cream. For every free scoop served, Baskin-Robbins will make a donation to First Book, a national nonprofit organization that provides free, new books to children from low-income families. An avid book reader, Bledel will lend her flavorful energy to help raise awareness of the importance of reading and the work of First Book. “I am excited to team up with Baskin-Robbins in support of First Book, a national children’s literacy program,” said Alexis Bledel. “My character on Gilmore Girls always has a book nearby, and several parents have said that their children have started to read because they watch the show. Free Scoop Night is a fun way for anyone to help children from low-income families get free books.” “There’s a natural connection between Alexis and the Free Scoop Night program,” said Debra Newton, global communications director for Baskin-Robbins. “We’re thrilled to have Alexis help us share the importance of reading and this fun-filled family event.”
